DAY-TO-DAY STEEL

Steel is present in our daily lives on many occasions and therefore often becomes invisible.

HOUSEWARES

Employed in restaurants, industrial kitchens, hospitals, laboratories, companies in general and in people’s homes, it has the necessary resistance for various uses in the form of household items. Steel’s properties include resistance to low and high temperatures, a surface that prevents the accumulation of debris, a chemical composition that prevents peeling, long durability and low maintenance costs.

TRANSPORT

Steel is present in cars, trucks, buses, trains, subways, ships, bicycles and motorcycles. It transports the population, interconnects cities and drives the loads, distributing wealth and spreading progress.

CONSTRUCTION

Widely used in construction, steel may be present as part of the works or as the main material. The steel construction system allows for freedom in architectural design, greater floor space, flexibility, compatibility with other materials, shorter lead times, rationalization of materials and labor, load relief on foundations, quality assurance, greater organization. on construction sites and constructive precision. Learn more about the potential of steel in civil construction by visiting the website of the Centro Brasileiro da Construção em Aço, whose manager is the Instituto Aço Brasil: www.cbca-acobrasil.org.br.

THE STEEL VILLAGE

Vila do Aço was a project of CBCA, whose manager is the Brazil Steel Institute, which presented the applications of daily use of steel, industry, transport, infrastructure and the field, as well as offering new alternatives for the use of construction steel.

It also demonstrated the various ways of using by-products from the steelmaking process in the construction, paving, ceramics, agriculture and cement manufacturing industry. Visitors visualized how steel transforms cities and contributes to the improvement of urban and rural spaces by presenting life-size replicas. The first assembly of the Villa took place in parallel to the 21st edition of 2010 the Brazilian Steel Conference & Expo in Sao Paulo.

Following the minicity was at the Conference of Cities in Brasilia; at Inovatec, in Belo Horizonte; at ExpoAcabamento, in Porto Alegre; at Rio Infraestrutura, in Rio de Janeiro and was also at the 22nd edition of the 2011 Brazilian Steel Conference & ExpoAço, also in São Paulo. The last edition of the Villa was at Construction Expo 2011.

PACKAGING AND CONTAINERS

Steel packaging is used by industry in general and is important for the conservation and transportation of food, chemicals, agricultural, paint, cooking and industrial gases. Especially in relation to food, steel avoids contamination, ensuring its quality. In addition, it is 100% recyclable.

ENERGY

Steel is used in hydroelectric, thermoelectric and nuclear power plants, transmission towers, transformers, power cables, platforms, pipelines, oil prospecting and extraction equipment, as well as coal mine drilling rigs, crawlers and buckets. It is therefore fundamental in the production and distribution of energy in the country.

AGRICULTURE

The efficiency of the agricultural sector is directly linked to steel consumption. The land is plowed, sown and fenced using steel-bearing equipment. At harvest time, with the harvesters, as well as storage in silos and bulk carriers, steel is also present, allowing food to reach the market.

STEEL SCULPTURES SHOW

The Brazil Steel Institute and the Fundação Villacero promoted an exhibition of steel-based works of art in Rio de Janeiro. The show brings together 10 works by Brazilian artists, who invite or publish to launch a new look of this product that moves the economy and is also capable of being the raw material of steel sculptures.
